Malcolm Macaulay, MS, PT. Founder of LightSpeed Lift
For 38 years, Malcolm has practiced physical therapy using movement to improve mobility and, thus, the quality of people's lives. Thirty years ago, an injured runner needed “magic” to regain his running ability. Running was critical to this individual's mental and physical well-being. The “magic” was a boat winch, a fish scale, and a traction belt positioned above a treadmill. 25 #s was “lifted” from Dan’s body, which reduced the impact forces of running. A huge smile lit up his body. He could run. He now had hope. He also fueled a vision to make offloading or Body Weight Support devices available to the broadest audience possible to promote better human mobility.
Almost two decades later, after an exhaustive search for more effective, efficient, reliable, and affordable alternatives to existing systems, Malcolm developed a new device that revolutionized how we approach mobility. This device, which centered the lift at the user’s hip joint, was tested on a client struggling to walk again after having her knees replaced simultaneously. A smile of newfound hope and freedom spread across her face when she took her first steps. For the first time in a long time, she could envision a life without the fear and pain that had become all too familiar.
This success story further fueled Malcolm's passion for refining and distributing a system that would be accessible to all, from elite rehabilitation facilities to 'regular' PT clinics, clubs, athletic training facilities, and home gyms. Today, that vision is a reality. The LightSpeed Lift system, born out of Malcolm's dedication and innovation, is used by thousands of people worldwide, enhancing the safety, efficiency, and enjoyment of walking and running. Even as he continues to practice physical therapy and refine the LightSpeed Lift system, Malcolm finds joy in the smiles and stories of improved mobility from his clients, a testament to the far-reaching impact of his work.
At age 72, Malcolm enjoys tennis, being in nature, biking, skiing, time on and in the water, reading, laughter, and hugs. He especially loves spending time with family and encouraging playful and adventurous grandchildren.
Molly McClimon Watcke, Sales & Marketing, LightSpeed Lift
Molly McClimon Watcke is a native of Madison, Wisconsin & proud graduate of the University of Michigan. Molly competed for the Wolverines in both track and cross country, where she earned First Team All-American honors 8 times in her career. Following graduation, Molly spent a number of years working and competing for New Balance Athletic Shoe in Boston. She competed in the 1996 and 2000 Track and Field Olympic Team Trials and represented the United States twice in the World Cross Country Championships. Molly was the 3rd U.S. finisher and placed 25th overall in the 1998 World Cross Country Championships. The United States squad also brought home a bronze medal for their efforts in the short-course race.
Molly’s early years at Michigan were plagued by iliotibial band syndrome and she is passionate about keeping runners healthy with tools such as LightSpeed Lift! Molly spends much of her free time running & traveling to watch her own kids race in track and cross-country events.
